Aloha, one & all…

Just a note to inform that I am taking a deliberate WP hiatus, perhaps a year, more or less with the aim of working upon a book of short stories. (I might drop an essay once in awhile, not sure.)

Deepest thanks for all of your wonderful writing & reading.

Keep Going!

Burning wishes to contact me can be accomplished on the ABOUT page. Salut.

      1. i have started writing recently but couldnt post because i had a big writing project underway and couldnt stop while i had the flow going because it needed to be done before my journey on earth ends.

    1. Thanks for your wishes, Annabel 🙂
I see that you too are transitioning to something else, in N. Calif. — so good luck and interesting times wished for you as well. Also, read awhile back that you were spending time in Gansu. How delightful! I used to think of this place, and also Xinjiang, with some degree of romantic wanderlust, but never arrived there. I spent several months in Lovely Yunnan instead. (and also areas around HK). Glad you made it “out west”.

      1. Oh, thank you so much!😃How wonderful you spent time in Yunnan! And yes, I went to Mogao caves in Gansu for my doctoral research project. Divine place! But I still believe that the whole land could’ve been more fortunate if Dr. Marx never existed. 😂

      2. Ah! Were you studying the library-cave manuscripts or something? I often thought of Dunhuang during my time in Yunnan. Alas, I do not know much about Dr. Marx — I’ve associated him more with Westernized exploration of Tibet, and the Ladakh region. There was a similar Western figure, mostly a botanist, called Joseph Rock. Beyond cataloging obscure plants and local herbal remedy customs he also Studied and lived with the Naxi peoples and immersed himself in their cultural customs. I did once see a photo of him visiting some important Gansu prince figure.

      3. How interesting you mentioned Joseph Rock! An influential early western explorer who took much interest in China. I’m sure you also have great stories to tell out of your own experiences in Yunnan 😃! Can be a potential future post?!☝️

I was studying the manuscripts VERY selectively. I only focused on my specialised field which is the temple dance aspect ☺️. Dunhuang is more than captivating!

      4. Well, that sounds more than fascinating, the temple dances. Really neat that you.ve developed that special interest. About my recollections, yes, I have jotted down fragments here and there. On this website the only thing I can point you to is the following link from some years back, I spent several months in Yunnan and was wide awake to the local culture there, was learning Mandarin, painting, and about TCM. All of this led naturally to romance for me, so hope you enjoy: https://skirmisheswithreality.net/2020/05/02/yunnan/
